Index Crashing your Browser? Check the file size!
by Sheldon Kotyk

A major cause of your browser crashing while using TeamSite Templating is your computer running out of memory. If you are trying to edit an index dcr and your browser crashes, it may be due to the size of the dcr you are trying to load.

For example: In the above filelisting, you can see that the growth dcr is 70K. If this was an html file it would be large. However, being just the XML data, this file will be 100+ K when the XSL (Template) is added to it and will take forever to download by the end user.

Growth 70K

Anything over 35/40K also seems to cause problems with browsers.

Solution:

The best solution is to split indexes into sub-indexes.

Step 1. Create the subindex the same as you would a new index.

Step 2. Save the subindex in a way that you would recognize it in the file listing. In the above filelisting, the health index has been split and the subindex is named health_chronicillness.

Step 3. In the index page, link to the subindex. Due to sites doing index pages different ways, contact your site administrator if you do not know how to do this.
