ChineseWomenToday.com [ChWT] is the first site to use the revamped index DCR system.

The goals of this revamping were to allow index dcrs to be larger, faster and easier to use.

Let's look at the home page for ChWT.

Other than the table colors and layout, much of this page is editable by editors.

The key to search engine placement is the html title, keywords and description. These should be filled in accurately.

Articles

The first article on the dcr is the feature article which has an image as well as link text (Chinese and English) and a Chinese Teaser.

Step 1: Choose the article
The first step in creating a link to the article is choosing which article to link to. Do this by clicking on the "Browse.." button and choosing the directory and article you wish to link to. Choose the English version of the article, the chinese one will automatically appear when needed in the template.

Step 2: Choose the image
Choose an image by clicking on the "Image" button and browsing on your harddrive for it. You can enter an alt tag for it for those who have images turned off and for search engine placement.

Step 3: Link text and add a teaser
"Chi Link text" is the large bolded font which has the link to the chinese article. "Chi Teaser" is a small phrase that isn't linked, but should give the reader a reason to click on the image or link text. "Eng Link Text" is the small English link under the Chinese teaser that links to the English version of the article.

Articles 2-5 are in the left column. Articles 6-8 are in the center column. Article 9 needs an image and is in the lifestory section beside the feature article. Article 10 is the bottom right article, uses an image and is an advice article.

Variables

New for this site is the variables system in the Index dcr. For the home page, the different tabs above the article sections can be replaced by inserting a new image. This system is expandable in the future.
